Emily Rose Van Alstyne has previously worked at the East Palo Alto Community Counseling Center Area with individuals, families, and children, diagnosed with a range of severe mental illness and co-occurring disorders. Emily specializes in treatment for individuals suffering from PTSD, Addiction, Anxiety, Depression, and Eating Disorders.

Emily prefers she/her pronouns and has a passion for social justice and advocacy. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Utah and moved to California to work with Amnesty International on the I Welcome Refugee Campaign. Emily holds a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University in Los Angeles. Her understanding of political science informs Emily's therapeutic approach, as systemic injustice heavily contributes to individual suffering.

Emily integrates trauma-informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems Therapy, and Psychodynamic Therapy into her approach. Her practice is client-centered, rested on the belief that the client is the expert of their lived experience, and that health and well-being exist on a spectrum.

Emily is a creative spirit who creates multi-media art in her free-time, which she implements into her therapy when it is helpful. Emily crochets, knits, paints, and draws, using the universal feminine as her inspiration.
